Relationship between Self-esteem and Level of Aspiration of High School Students in Sri Lankan Refugee Camps

INTRODUCTION

Since 1956 there has been civil unrest in Sri Lanka. In the past four decades the Tamils have been forced to migrate from Sri Lanka for their own safety because of the repeated political and civil unrest. Tamils have dispersed across the globe. Since 1983 mass exodus on an unprecedented scale has taken place.

India has magnanimously given asylum to several hundred thousands of Sri Lankan refugees. The Government of India does not have a Pact with United Nations High Commission for Refugee Service (UNHCR), yet the State Government of Tamilnadu has not left any stone unturned to provide all the basic essential physical and other facilities, like shelter, food, supply of drinking water and electricity, health care, sanitation and education. With regard to education one cannot find an iota of discrimination made against the Sri Lankan refugee children. They can get admission in any government school and college.
